Empathy Test Darkmad 2024: the soundtrack to a burning afternoon in Madrid

Darkmad Festival 2024, held at the Autocine Madrid, promised to be an unforgettable event for lovers of dark and electronic music. It wasn’t without its challenges, as Empathy Test had to deal with several delays caused by technical issues. Despite these setbacks, the band managed to rise above the situation and deliver a strong performance for those of us who were there.

Empathy Test’s show felt like a celebration of their ten-year journey. The set opened with the iconic replicant monologue from Blade Runner, evoking the famous “tears in rain” speech. That cinematic introduction gave way to the opening chords of “Monsters,” setting the tone for what would become one of the festival’s standout moments.

The band performed a selection of essential tracks, including “Kirrilee,” “Last Night On Earth,” “Demons,” and their widely acclaimed hit “Losing Touch.” The set also featured “House Of Cards,” Isaac Howlett’s first solo release.

Although the performance lasted around 45 minutes, it never felt diminished by the intense Madrid sun. On the contrary, the band’s energy and the audience’s eagerness for live music turned the heat into part of the experience. Isaac Howlett guided the crowd through rhythms and melodies that invited movement without hesitation.

As the band left the stage, there was a shared feeling that something meaningful had taken place. Empathy Test had not only overcome technical difficulties but had reaffirmed their place in the hearts of their followers. And as the afternoon slowly faded over Madrid, the promise of new music from Isaac Howlett suggested that this would not be the last chapter for a band that has defined a decade of dark, synth-driven emotion.

In an exclusive conversation with Isaac, he revealed that although Empathy Test has faced some obstacles recently, there are plans for a new solo track that promises to be closer to the band’s characteristic sound. It’s encouraging news for fans eager to hear more of the emotional and charismatic music that has come to define Empathy Test.
