AveFeFénix new videoclip: When the Voice Is The Whole Argument
There are solo projects that exist because the artist needed an outlet. Then there are solo projects that exist because the artist had something to say that didn’t fit anywhere else. AveFeFénix is the second kind.
Félix is the frontman of Sublocal Z, one of the most dependable live acts in Barcelona’s underground circuit. On stage with the band, his voice and presence do the heavy lifting. With AveFeFénix, the band disappears. What remains is the voice alone, stripped of the group’s architecture, with nowhere to hide. It turns out that’s not a problem.
“Pura Maldad”: A Year in Circulation, Now With a Face
The single has been out since March 2024, which means it’s had time to settle. Most tracks that circulate that long without a visual either get forgotten or become so familiar that a video feels redundant. This one earns its clip.
The lyrics deal in seduction and submission, in people who arrive at the altar already corrupted, who sell themselves quietly and act without mercy. The portrait isn’t of a single villain — it’s of collective complicity, of the way power finds willing partners. The chorus doesn’t elaborate: sin piedad, pura maldad. No mercy, pure evil. Four words, repeated until the point is made. The restraint is the point.

Abel Portillo Behind the Camera
The video was directed by Abel Portillo, brought in on recommendation from the Larva team and shot on the outskirts of Barcelona. That recommendation matters: Larva moves in the same underground post-punk space, and the connection shows in the aesthetic choices.
Portillo works with backlit silhouettes, figures caught in thresholds and half-light. The editing follows the song’s own rhythm rather than imposing one — which sounds obvious but is rarer than it should be. The darker cuts arrive exactly when the track calls for them. Small visual effects appear without announcing themselves. Nothing is trying to be noticed for its own sake.
Félix in front of a camera looks like Félix on a stage: natural, not performed. Some artists look like they’re acting when a lens points at them. This isn’t that.
